2022 Annual Gala

2022-Gala-Header

YOU’RE INVITED!

If you share our belief that everyone deserves health care regardless of ability to pay, immigration status, or housing situation, join LifeLong Medical Care’s board of directors, executive leadership team, staff and supporters for a gala celebration Saturday, March 26th at the Oakland Marriott City Center. It will be a night of fun and frenzy as we compete silently (and loudly) for experiences, trips, and cakes – sweet, delicious cakes! And a special musical performance by Kate Lewis and the Jazz Headliners, an all-star group uniting for one night only. Don’t miss this “must see” event.

We will be posthumously honoring Dr. Chris Kiefer with our “Bobbie” Award, named after East Bay health advocate Rosalind “Bobbie” Singer. Chris served on LifeLong’s Board of Directors from 1994 until his passing in August 2021 and was a tireless advocate for our patients. He chaired the board’s advocacy committee for many years, attending countless meetings with legislators in Sacramento. In retirement, Chris developed excellent wood carving skills, creating sculptures and beautiful wooden bowls, many of which were auctioned to raise funds for LifeLong.

SUPPORT HEALTH EQUITY

LifeLong Medical Care serves 50,000+ residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, and Marin counties annually, regardless of ability to pay, immigration status or housing situation. We provide high-quality medical, dental, behavioral health, and social services for all ages. We take care of our patients in many settings: health centers, mobile vans, schools, encampments of the unhoused, and supportive housing.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, LifeLong has leveraged trust built over four and half decades to assist those people who have been hit hardest. As of February, LifeLong has fully vaccinated 21,903 people (more than the seating capacity of Chase Center) and administered 32,782 COVID tests; 9,335 of those doses and 6,643 of those tests took place in East Oakland, serving residents living in some of the most underserved zip codes in the entire Bay Area.

LifeLong is preparing to break ground in July on a new state-of-the-art health center in East Oakland, continuing our commitment to this neighborhood stretching back a quarter of a century. We are kicking off a $2.5 million dollar fundraising campaign, and your support will be life-changing, and even lifesaving, for the expectant moms, kids, and adults of all ages who will be making this center their new health home.

LIFELONG’S COMMITMENT TO EAST OAKLAND

Our East Oakland Health Center at Foothill Square Shopping Center opened twenty-five years ago under our more expansive mission to offer the same great healthcare we had been providing to seniors at the Over 60 Health Center in Berkeley to people of all ages in more of the East Bay region as LifeLong Medical Care. It was also the first of our health centers to include a Wellness Center, allowing us to incorporate yoga, meditation, healthy cooking, and even a rooftop vegetable garden for an integrated approach to health.

In 2008, Dr. Howard Daniel was 78 years old and still delivering babies when he asked LifeLong Medical Care to take on his large OB-GYN practice, also located in East Oakland. Today, our Howard Daniel Health Center continues the good doctor’s tradition, providing pre- and post-natal care, and other health services for women. It also offers primary care, behavioral health services, health education, and social services for adults and children. The photos of generations of children delivered and cared for by this practice line the walls.

LifeLong’s new health center in East Oakland will bring these two established practices together in a brand-new facility to offer a continuum of care from pre-natal through geriatrics. And, with this new facility, we will expand our offering to include dental care. We look forward to welcoming patients by the end of next year.

JOIN US

LifeLong’s board of directors, executive leadership team, staff, and volunteers look forward to welcoming you on Saturday evening, March 26th at the Oakland Marriott City Center for a wonderful evening to support a new health care home for the East Oakland community.

Sincerely,

Sylvia Hacaj
