Dr. Howard Daniel merged his family practice with LifeLong in 2008, the same year he received LifeLong’s Bobbie Award as a staunch advocate for a stronger, more just healthcare system.

Dr. Howard Daniel, the beloved physician died in 2022, having touched countless of lives with more than 45 years of service to the East Oakland community. Formed in 1968 with his wife, Nurse Practitioner Sally Daniel, the practice was known as the neighborhood’s “family doc.” In fact, Dominica Zone, East Oakland Health Center’s Center Director, was one of the thousands of babies he delivered in his career. Starr Stone, Center Supervisor at the Howard Daniel Health Center, worked alongside Dr. Daniel for more than 20 years.

“Working with Dr. Daniel was a real treat because he treated all his staff like family,” Starr says. “He was down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and always encouraging people to go after what they believed in. He’d be at the hospital all night delivering babies, and he’d come in the next morning to see patients.”
