Prior to joining the residency as Co-Director in August 2021, Joan was a Clinic Lead for the residency at Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center. She later developed the prenatal curriculum as Prenatal Faculty within the residency. Joan graduated from Yale School of Nursing in 2010 and is board certified as an Adult NP and Women’s Health NP. Outside of work, Joan takes care of her indoor and outdoor gardens, plans road trips to national parks with her daughter and friends, and occasionally creates mixed media art pieces.

Prior to joining the residency as Co-Director in July 2021, Vanessa was the Associate Medical Director of LifeLong Medical Center West Berkeley, and a preceptor at that EBC-NPR site. Vanessa graduated from University of California San Francisco School of Nursing in 2016 and is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Outside of work, Vanessa enjoys trail running and hiking, playing with her dog at the beach, reading fiction, and is learning how to watercolor.

Prior to joining the fellowship program, Jacqueline worked as Center Supervisor at Lifelong’s Trust Health Center servicing the People Experiencing Homelessness (PEH) and prior to that worked as Center Supervisor at Lifelong's West Berkeley Health Center servicing families in the community. Jacqueline graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in Sociology. Jacqueline is passionate about community health and education, increasing access to quality care for the underserved populations and cultivating positive work environments. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, running, yoga, reading and journaling.

Growing up with immigrant parents from different parts of the world, I have always felt passionate about serving immigrants and utilizing my Spanish speaking skills to help those who need it. Working as an inpatient COVID-19 nurse in Philly during the peak of the pandemic, I saw firsthand how disparities gravely affect health outcomes. I want to be at the forefront to combat them through screening, education, and early intervention in the primary care setting.

My academic interests are exploring the role of social determinants of health and health disparities, adverse childhood experiences, trauma-informed practices, food medicine/justice, and diabetes management in BIPOC communities. Other interests include increasing access to health pathways for young people of color, education, and mentorship opportunities. I love to teach and pay it forward!

What keeps me well is the ability to cook for others and build my creativity through crafts. I love DIYing, calligraphy, and love teaching my pup new tricks. I am also getting back into figure skating as an adult.
