Celebrate Brookside San Pablo Urgent Care 7th Anniversary!
Saturday, May 21 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm$10
Doctors Medical Center was an eight-story, 120-bed public hospital in San Pablo which served 250,000 residents in western Contra Costa County from 1954 until it's closure on April 21, 2015. Doctors was the primary radiation and cardiac center in the area and also provided cancer treatment, obstetrics (until 2006), and burn care. At the time, it offered the only full service emergency room in west Contra Costa County, receiving 41,000 patients annually. Because of this, its repeated near-closings and bankruptcies over the years were a matter of significant public interest. It was one of only two hospitals that accepted Medi-Cal in Contra Costa county. Medi-Cal users comprised 80% of its patients, while 10% had no insurance and 10% had private insurance.
When the closure was announced, Dr. Desmond Carson was the head of the Emergency Department at Doctors. He along with a couple of his colleagues and Emergency Dept staff worked with Lucinda Bazile, DL Poole and others at LifeLong Medical Care to open the doors of our Brookside San Pablo Urgent Care, LifeLong's first urgent care center.
According to urgent care coordinator Millie Callen, "The journey has not been easy but with all the challenges that we normally face on a day-to-day basis and with Covid among us, we managed to keep our doors open seven days a week seeing patients in person."
Come celebrate BSP Urgent Care's seventh-year anniversary and honor Dr. Desmond Carson.
