PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis)- a daily pill or a bi-monthly injectable medication that, when taken daily, can help prevent HIV infection by 99%
PrEp is for those older than 12 without HIV who are at risk for getting HIV from sex or injection drug use.
Remember, PrEP does not protect against STIs like gonorrhea, chlamydia, or syphilis. Condoms and regular testing are recommended to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infection.
PEP (Post-exposure prophylaxis)- medication taken within 72 hours after an exposure to HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, and/or gonorrhea.
