Words from Our Team

LifeLong feels like home. Our foundation is community. We have patients who come in who we’ve known for 20 years, and we have seen them come in with their grandchildren, and now their grandchildren are adults. What keeps me going is really providing quality healthcare to our patients. Sometimes I don’t think the patients know they deserve it. But we know they do deserve it and want to provide the best possible care we can for people.

Dominica Zone
East Oakland Health Center Director

I think LifeLong can be a good fit for so many different types of primary care clinicians with varied interests who are really committed to the wellness of the whole patient and the opportunity to serve vulnerable communities. I love the joy and resiliency that people bring to doing hard work for the community, and I love that we feel like such a family who are really in this together.

Dr. Samali Lubega
HIV lead, East Oakland Health Center

At LifeLong it’s not only important that we provide a place where any patient can feel comfortable coming in, but it’s also really important that it also be true for our staff. It’s important that anybody that works at LifeLong can be who they are because when they’re able to be their own person, they can connect with patients who are struggling potentially with some of the same issues.

Dr. Michael Stacey
Chief Medical Officer

We want patients to feel as though they matter and that the work that we do is going to help them on their journey in life. So if you’re a really resourceful person, someone who likes challenges, we’re a pretty positive group of folks. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’re going to have laughs in the process of solving the problem.

Dr. Miriam Parker
Chief Dental Officer

I like to walk around the health center. I like to see how my staff is interacting with patients. I like to be able to see the faces of patients. I love being able to answer questions and I love being able to coach and support my staff.”

Wanda Morales
Immediate and Urgent Care Services Manager

One of the things that attracts providers to work at LifeLong is the variety of things they can do. They see patients in clinic, but we also have a number of groups – how to cook, how to eat healthy. We have groups for expecting mothers. We also have street medicine teams that go out to homeless encampments. And these groups are run by providers. So there are a number of ways to add some variety into your work schedule and do a whole bunch of different types of healthcare. A lot of providers find that really rewarding.

Dr. Michael Stacey
Chief Medical Officer

With the patient population we serve, I know I made the right decision. I’m working with Medical Assistants, some of whom were patients themselves at the clinic before. It’s just nice to work with people who are very passionate and have returned to serve the community that has shaped who they are today.

Dr. Semera Shemsu
Family Medicine Resident, Class of 2025

Working at LifeLong, when you help people it’s more gratifying and you get more out of life by helping others. If you see someone that smiles if you made their job easier, it just makes me feel good about myself and feel good about what I do.

Facilities Management Director
