LifeLong Nurse Maria Zimmerman Honored

Maria Zimmerman, RN, at LifeLong’s Trust Health Center, has been honored with an Alameda County Health Care for the Homeless G.G. Greenhouse 2023 Community Hero Award.

Maria was one of seven award winners this year. The ACHCH described her as “an inspiration to all fortunate to call her colleague or care provider.”

“Maria’s generosity of spirit, driven by her remarkable empathy and loving acceptance of all, no matter what challenges they may be facing, is awe-inspiring,” the organization wrote. “She always goes well beyond the call of duty; for example, using her lunch break to drive medication to a patient in the hospital or going out of her way to lend support to a colleague who is having a tough day. What’s more, her can-do spirit and determination to do as much as she possibly can every day to make sure every client feels honored, respected, welcomed, and cared for is without equal.”

The award is named in honor of Gretel (G.G.) Greenhouse, a leader in the struggle for justice, equity, and health who was the founder and director of ACHCH. The award is given each year to honor “exceptional heroes” for their work to “save lives, improve health, and end homelessness.”
