In February, LifeLong’s Family Medicine Program joined residency programs across the country to honor the contributions and dedication of physician residents for Thank a Resident Day this week. Each year, on the last Friday of February, the Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s Gold Humanism Honor Society nationally recognizes the impact and service of physician residents, underscoring their vital role within the healthcare team.
To celebrate, our current classes of residents were feted with a luncheon and team building activities. Every year since 2023, LifeLong has graduated six physicians who complete their three-year residencies caring for underserved patients in our communities.
Upon completion of medical school, new doctors go on to select a specialty to train in, such as family medicine, pediatrics or geriatrics. As family medicine residents, our physician residents complete three years of training in various medical subspecialties, complete required trainings that enhance their abilities to safely render care to our patients, attend weekly didactics, care for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, perform procedures, take call, and learn to care for patients with complex conditions. During this time, they balance the demands of clinical assignments, learning, and personal development.
Residency training is a pivotal part of the physician journey, not only in terms of honing clinical skills, but also developing leadership skills, professional identity, and purpose. For that, we are grateful that our residents chose LifeLong to be part of this chapter.
Thank you, LifeLong residents!
